GST on your organization's bookings
How the Tax & invoicing setting works for an organization's booking page, who can change it, and what stays the organization's responsibility.
Last updated:
Who can change it
Only the organization owner is offered the Tax & invoicing setting for the organization's booking page. It is under the workspace's booking page settings. Managers and members do not see it.
In short
Charging GST on bookings is optional, and it is off until the owner turns it on. Turn this on only if the organization is registered for GST and its sessions are taxable. Clients then pay 18% GST at checkout, and their receipt becomes a tax invoice.
While this is off, receipts carry the line “GST not charged: the practice does not charge GST on this service.”
General information, not tax advice
PracMind cannot tell you whether your services are taxable or whether you must register. This page explains how the setting works. If you are not sure, ask your chartered accountant before turning it on.
Who has to charge GST?
Health care services by a clinical establishment, an authorised medical practitioner or para-medics are exempt from GST (Notification 12/2017-Central Tax (Rate), entry 74).
Services by rehabilitation professionals recognised under the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992, by way of rehabilitation, therapy or counselling, are exempt when provided "at medical establishments, educational institutions, rehabilitation centers established by Central Government, State Government or Union territory or an entity registered under section 12AA [or 12AB] of the Income-tax Act, 1961" (entry 74A). Private practice alone is not one of those settings.
Other counselling, coaching or wellness services may be taxable. A supplier has to register for GST once their turnover in a year passes the threshold, ₹20 lakh in most states and lower in a few.
If you are not sure which applies to you, ask your chartered accountant before turning this on.
The registration PracMind uses
Bookings are invoiced in the name of the organization, using the GST registration saved in the workspace's billing details. To turn the setting on, a GSTIN, the state registered in, the organization's registered address and legal name must be saved at Workspace, in the billing section, and the registration must be in India. PracMind checks the GSTIN and refuses to turn the setting on until the registration is complete.
How the price is charged
GST is charged at 18%. The owner chooses how the listed price relates to it:
- Includes GST
- ₹500 listed → the client pays ₹500 (₹423.73 + ₹76.27 GST)
- Add GST on top
- ₹500 listed → the client pays ₹590 (₹500 + ₹90 GST)
When the client is in the same state as the registration, the GST is shown as CGST and SGST. When the client is in another state, it is shown as IGST. The client chooses their state at checkout.
What clients see
Clients pay the total at checkout and receive a tax invoice in the supplier's name. A client who wants a GST invoice for their business can give a GSTIN and a business name at checkout; PracMind checks the GSTIN against the state they chose.
The organization's responsibility
New bookings will charge 18% GST, and their receipts become tax invoices in the organization's name. Bookings already made are not changed. The organization is responsible for filing returns and paying the GST it collects.
To turn the setting on, the owner confirms this declaration: “I am registered for GST with the GSTIN shown, and my sessions are taxable services.”
The GST the client pays is passed on with the payout, because the supplier is the one who files and pays it. PracMind does not file returns or pay GST for you.
Changing or stopping
- Changes apply to bookings made after you save.
- New bookings will not include GST. Tax invoices already issued are not changed.
- Changing between GST included and GST on top asks for confirmation first, because it changes what the next client pays.
